On November 19-20, the 2020 International Summit on Energy Storage Safety was held at the Century Jinyuan Hotel in Hefei. The theme of this forum is "Focusing on Energy Storage Safety, Escorting Industry Development", which comprehensively analyzes and discusses various aspects of global energy storage industry related policies, safety basic situation, potential safety hazards of energy storage, and response strategies.

At this summit, Cao Jian, Chief Engineer of the New Energy Division of Kehua Hengsheng Co., Ltd., was interviewed by China Energy Network regarding the configuration of the new energy generation side and the safety of energy storage.

China Energy Network: The energy storage configuration on the new energy generation side is booming this year. Will the trend continue to improve in the future?

Cao Jian: Firstly, with the overall national strategy and the adjustment of the global energy structure, the proportion of renewable energy, especially photovoltaic and wind power, will increase in the future. Energy storage is definitely an inevitable trend, and demand will continue to grow. In the future, it will form a normalized configuration with wind and solar power. Conventional energy sources, including hydropower, thermal power, etc., require the support of underlying energy sources and human intervention to ensure sustained energy supply. However, light and wind are not subject to human intervention, and in some cases, demand is sustained. Therefore, an artificial factor needs to be added to achieve the sustainability of wind and solar power generation, and energy storage has become an inevitable choice. This is my conclusion, as long as the energy structure continues to adjust, energy storage will definitely continue to improve, whether it is next year or the next 10 years.

China Energy Network: What are the current problems facing energy storage? What are the layouts of Kehua Hengsheng in energy storage safety?

Cao Jian: I think there are two challenges to energy storage safety. The first is the safety issue discussed in today's meeting. No matter from the political or economic level, if an industry or an industry has no way to guarantee the safety premise, the industry must not continue to develop. I think the PFH+water mist model mentioned by the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science, the sponsor of this forum, is a very good direction, and I also very much recognize the energy storage safety concept and technology of China Kejiuan. Later, Kehua Hengsheng will maintain a good cooperation relationship with China Kejiuan in the field of energy storage safety.

The second point is facing a practical problem, the issue of economic costs, which are the core issues that constrain industrial development. At present, not all industries have no economic benefits for energy storage, some industries do. It's about how to view its value and how to manage it. Energy storage has no operational benefits in power generation enterprises, which does not mean it has no operational benefits in off grid industries such as islands, or in some special industries such as the new energy vehicle industry. So, this requires us to look at it from multiple dimensions. Different segmented industries and business models will have different effects.

China Energy Network: You just mentioned the offshore island. Can you briefly introduce the current energy consumption of the offshore island to everyone?

Cao Jian: Currently, islands mainly use traditional diesel power generation, which has a high cost, much higher than the cost of using photovoltaics combined with traditional energy storage. From the current cost-benefit perspective, the traditional diesel power generation method can be completely replaced by renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics combined with energy storage. This is currently feasible.

China Energy Network: This year's epidemic has had some impact on various industries. How has the performance of Kehua Hengsheng been this year, and has it been greatly affected by the epidemic?

Cao Jian: The epidemic has a great impact on the entire human race. As for the impact on Kehua's business, it has multiple aspects. Overall, we are still growing in a positive direction. As for the growth rate, because our company is a listed company, all data and financial disclosures are made by third-party institutions. This is completely open and transparent, and I think our growth rate this year is still quite high.

China Energy Network: Mr. Cao, could you briefly introduce the business of Kehua Hengsheng and its next strategic layout?

Cao Jian: Kehua's earliest traditional business was in the UPS industry with power electronics. Over the years, the biggest capital is Kehua's 32 year history of growth and profitability every year. Although Kehua targets many industries, our core technology and market competitiveness have always revolved around specialization.

Currently, Kehua is mainly focusing on two aspects. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the whole country has been discussing the issue of internal circulation and external circulation. In fact, from a larger perspective, after the national strategic adjustment, the proportion of China's entire economy in the global economy is constantly increasing. The vision of all Chinese enterprises must be oriented towards internationalization and marketization. If enterprises cannot take this step, then China's so-called rise is just empty talk. This means that Kehua Hengsheng is not only engaged in traditional domestic business, but also making overseas layouts in data centers, new energy, and traditional energy.

Introduction to Kehua Hengsheng:

Kehua Hengsheng Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Kehua Hengsheng") was founded in 1988 and was listed on the Shenzhen A-share market in 2010 (stock code 002335). It is a nationally recognized enterprise technology center, a key project undertaking unit of the National Torch Plan, a national high-tech enterprise, a national technology innovation demonstration enterprise, and one of the first batch of "two integration management system" standardized enterprises in China, serving users in more than 100 countries and regions around the world.

Kehua Hengsheng, based on the core technology of power electronics, integrates the application of artificial intelligence and the cutting-edge technology of the Internet of Things, is committed to integrating the "digital and scenario based intelligent power integrated management system" into different scenarios, providing stable power, supporting the transformation and upgrading of various industries, and providing safe and reliable intelligent power integrated management solutions and services for customers such as government, finance, industry, communication, transportation, and the Internet in three major fields: data center, high-end power supply, and new energy.

According to a report by authoritative research firm CCID Consulting, Kehua Hengsheng has maintained the top market share of domestic UPS brands in China for several consecutive years; According to a report by the authoritative ICT research and information agency, China Communications World (CCW), Kehua Hengsheng ranked first in the overall market share of China's micro module data center market and UPS market in 2019, leading the development of the smart energy industry with brand power and driving the digital interconnected world.

Introduction to State Key Laboratory of Fire Science:

The State Key Laboratory of Fire Science, relying on the University of Science and Technology of China, is the only national research institution in the field of basic research of fire science in China, which is built with World Bank loans and domestic supporting investment. In 1989, it passed the project proposal and was approved for simultaneous construction and opening up to the outside world in 1992. In 1995, it passed the national acceptance inspection. In 2003, it participated in the evaluation of 29 State Key Laboratory in the field of engineering and materials for the first time and was rated as "excellent" State Key Laboratory. In 2008, State Key Laboratory was evaluated as excellent. In 2004, at the "20th Anniversary of the Implementation of the State Key Laboratory Plan and the 5th Anniversary of the Implementation of the National Key Basic Research and Development Plan", the laboratory was awarded the "Advanced Collective of the State Key Laboratory Plan". In the column of "Building an independent innovation platform and improving the competitiveness of national science and technology" in the Report on the Operation Analysis and Development of State Key Laboratory - Achievements (China Basic Science, 2006, Issue 1), which was completed by the Basic Research Management Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology to summarize the achievements of the national key laboratory in the past 20 years, it was pointed out that "the State Key Laboratory of fire science has become an internationally renowned research base and academic center in the field of basic research of fire science".
