The salon focused on "Energy Storage Safety Considerations and Technical Discussions" and invited experts in the field of energy storage safety, energy storage technology manufacturers, design institutes, fire experts, and standard certification enterprises to explore key technologies for energy storage system safety, energy storage standards and safety protection measures, and promote the sustainable development of energy storage. Guo Pengyu, Senior Engineer of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Company, shared the research on fire extinguishing technology for prefabricated cabin lithium iron phosphate battery energy storage power stations from two aspects: fire extinguishing technology scheme and engineering implementation and operation precautions. Guo Pengyu stated that a series of experiments have shown that the following two fire extinguishing technologies are effective: one is the module level fine water mist fire extinguishing technology, and the other is the combined use of gases such as heptafluoropropane/perfluorohexane and fine water mist technology. With the passage of operation time, thermal runaway of batteries in large-scale lithium iron phosphate battery energy storage power plants may become a norm. However, from the perspective of fault development, initially only a single battery experienced thermal runaway. As long as the cluster level relay and cabin level circuit breaker are disconnected in a timely manner to avoid charging the faulty cluster, and the ventilation system is activated for ventilation, fire accidents generally do not occur at this time. Fixed fire extinguishing systems such as fine water mist should be set to operate automatically. In the event of a fire, the fire extinguishing system should be automatically activated and a large amount of water should be used for fire control and extinguishing.

Liu Shuangyu believes that energy storage safety is a multidimensional and systematic task that requires continuous technological innovation and product iteration in fire protection systems, monitoring platforms, and battery management systems. Huayun Technology proposed the concept of cloud edge collaborative energy storage battery diagnosis system. The basic principle is to extract some parameters related to the energy storage battery through the intelligent interrupt collection battery management system of edge computing, and transmit the data to the cloud through data cleaning, processing and certain calculation. The cloud has deployed algorithms related to battery safety and reliability, which can provide real-time diagnosis of the battery's operating status and prevent safety accidents in advance. And the diagnostic system can continuously improve the accuracy and reliability of diagnosis through the analysis technology of artificial intelligence and big data.

Wang Donglin stated that 2020 is the first year of new energy and energy storage, but the driving force for new energy distribution and storage mainly comes from power grid companies and local policies, and the revenue model is not clear. By 2025, the overall cost of energy storage may decrease to around 20 cents, and the cost reduction of energy storage systems and policy interaction will ensure the overall economic benefits of adding energy storage to new energy plants. At present, many energy storage integration manufacturers in the market do not have the overall integration and testing capabilities of their products. The energy storage systems delivered to customers have a series of problems, and in the subsequent operation of the system, safety hazards, failure rates, online rates, and the entire lifespan of the energy storage system will continue to be exposed. Industry related entities should attach importance to the healthy and sustainable development of the industry, and establish industry standards and entry thresholds as soon as possible.

Zhou Xichao stated that the safety of energy storage power stations is a system engineering and the primary issue for the development of the energy storage industry. In addition to focusing on the construction of energy storage power stations, all parties in the industry should invest sufficient energy to ensure the operation and maintenance of power stations. Regarding the issue of balancing safety and economy, Zhou Xichao stated that safety is the red line and economy is the goal. The safety line should be divided into scenarios and needs, defining safety, analyzing hazards, determining safety constraint boundaries, and establishing indicator standards. Combining quantitative and qualitative analysis to determine the optimal fire protection configuration.
