【Zhongke Zhonghuan】Announcement on the Approval and Release of the Group Standard for General Test Methods for Fire Hazards of Lithium ion Batteries

Release Date:2021-03-01  Source:  View count:377

According to the"Standard Management Measures for Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance",the alliance standard"General Test Method for Fire Hazard of Lithium ion Batteries"is now approved for release, with the standard number T/CNESA 1004-2021.

This is to announce.

March 1,2021

Lithium ion batteries are widely used in portable electronic products, electric vehicles, and energy storage power stations due to their high energy density and superior cycling performance. However, due to its flammable and explosive characteristics, fire accidents caused by thermal runaway of lithium-ion batteries have been frequently reported in recent years. It is particularly important to classify the fire hazard level of lithium-ion batteries.Only by determining the fire hazard level of lithium-ion batteries can the problems faced be solved according to the corresponding standards and relevant theories or experiences.Carrying out the classification of fire hazard levels for lithium-ion batteries can provide a clear understanding of their fire hazard levels and provide guidance for disaster prevention and rescue.

At present, relevant domestic and foreign institutions have done a lot of work in the safety testing of lithium-ion batteries, involving numerous situations of abuse of lithium-ion batteries, including overcharging, overdischarging, external heating, needle punching, impact, drop, high rate charging and discharging, battery self heating, etc. The existing national standards GB 31241,GB 31485,as well as international standards UN38.3,IEC 62133,etc.,list the abuse tests that lithium-ion batteries and battery packs need to pass for safety requirements, such as vibration, drop, etc. The basis for judging the battery passing the test is that the battery did not ignite or explode during the test, lacking specific quantitative analysis and fire hazard classification.

This standard was proposed by the University of Science and Technology of China, approved by the Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance Standardization Committee on March 19,2019,and reviewed by the alliance on January 26,2021.The purpose of this standard is to establish a universal testing method for grading the fire hazard level of lithium-ion batteries, standardize testing instruments, testing methods, and measurement variables, and provide guidance and basis for the design of grading tests for the fire hazard level of lithium-ion batteries in the future.
