On August 4th, the China International Power Battery Safety Design and Manufacturing Forum with the theme of "Creating Safer Power Batteries" opened in Suzhou. In recent years, with the rapid increase in the market for pure electric vehicles and the mass application of higher energy density lithium-ion power batteries, electric vehicle self ignition accidents caused by power batteries have occurred intensively. The safety issue of power batteries is the biggest obstacle to the further development and popularization of electric vehicles.
The main factors affecting the fire hazard of batteries include battery capacity, battery composition system, battery state of charge, battery structure (with PTC and pressure relief valve installed in the battery), etc. The thermal hazard of batteries is compared using equivalent TNT equivalent, which is nearly half of the TNT specific energy (1282Wh/kg). The analysis of thermal and combustion characteristics is currently the main means of assessing the hazard of batteries.
The data obtained from a large number of thermal runaway tests shows that the battery generates a rapid increase in temperature, produces a large amount of combustible mixture gas, and carries the risk of combustion and explosion during and after thermal runaway.
To this end, Zhongke Zhonghuan adopts the basic methods of early sensing and thermal runaway suppression to cope with battery thermal control. Through various sensors such as temperature, smoke, CO, VOC, etc., real-time collection of internal environmental parameters of the battery box is carried out. Combined with multiple parameter composite judgments and thermal runaway models, three-level pre alarm (reporting) of battery thermal runaway is achieved; Thermal runaway suppression uses fire extinguishing media with cooling capabilities to reduce thermal diffusion and secondary fires caused by thermal spread, thereby solving the core safety problem of thermal runaway.
